Wellness has certainly grown through the years. Even before I knew that “wellness” had a name, I practiced many of its ideas. I have been a member of the National Wellness Institute (NWI) for over 30 years and remember when everyone was just trying to figure out what this “wellness” thing was. I worked in a corporate setting as their wellness “guru” as they didn’t know what title to give me.
In my blog, I will share how I see wellness and how I have used it during the good and difficult times. Although I will include something each week from my 9 Dimensions of Wellness, the posts will also be from what I have learned in my 72 years of life. We don’t always have the ability to have health – and life happens – but it is how we manage those events that gives us a healthy, wellness lifestyle.
I believe that we can always find something of beauty in every day so I will also share a painting or photo each week. This week’s painting is titled Nikki’s Roses and is a watercolor painting. You will be able to see the paintings each week on my site for my artistic side.
The original 6 Dimensions of Wellness are Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Intellectual, Social, & Occupational from Dr. Bill Hettler, who co-founded the National Wellness Institute (NWI). The Six Dimensions of Wellness provide the categories from which NWI derives its resources and services and it is the model most wellness practitioners follow. Environmental and Financial are often added as well and I like to add Pet Wellness with all the pet rescue work I have done. If you have a topic or area that you would like to know more about, contact me and I will try to answer your question.
